There is an alternative offered by Bosch that's more of a hybrid between a ductless and a ducted air handler that encompasses the compacting of a regular ducted air handler with the efficiency of a heat pump meant for ductless units which is way more efficient from an energy perspective. It's a concealed ducted air handler.
The unit below has dimensions of 43"x30"x10" (LxWxH) but to compare the heat pump in efficiency for this unit is unparalleled.
